Who can participate in InnovateTO150?

InnovateTO150 is open to students and non-students of all ages. InnovateTO150 is also open to alumni and all innovative entrepreneurs, from all academic institutions.

Do I need to be a Canadian Citizen to participate?

No. This is an inclusive event and we welcome foreign students and diverse backgrounds to participate.

Can I participate as an individual or do I need a team to pitch?

Participants can participate as individuals or as teams of up to a maximum of 3 members.

I am already being supported by an incubator, can I still participate?

Yes, absolutely!

What do I gain from participating?

  1. Opportunity to win part of the $50,000.00 in awards (comprises of cash and in-kind awards)!!!   You have to qualify to participate in one of the two Pitch Competitions — The Showcase Startup  Pitch Competition and the Social Enterprise Pitch Competition.
  2. Build Your Networks: InnovateTO150 works hard to recruit high quality, driven entrepreneurs- like you! We will be providing you with the opportunity to network with investors, partners, media, peers, and sponsors such as Universities Canada.
  3. Learn New Skills: Our Showcase is dedicated to letting your creative juices flow. InnovateTO150 is a perfect opportunity to work on a new platform and connect with new changemakers, innovators, and like-minded entrepreneurs.
  4. Have fun: By interacting with the Showcase participants who might share your ideas, have fun and enjoy the event activities. 

How will you choose the winners of the Pitch Competitions?

Judging Criteria and Eligibility are detailed in the online application form.  Once the Showcase online registration closes Monday October 16th, the successful applicants for the Showcase Exhibition will be notified Wednesday Octover 18, 2017 by 5:00 PMand pitch competition finalists will be notified by October 20, 2017 by 5:00 PM. During the Showcase on Friday November the 3rd, the successful applicants will be judged on the Exhibition floor and on-stage with presentations 5-10 minutes in length, by a judging panel.  The awards winners will be announced at the Showcase between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

How will you choose the winner from the Social Enterprise Pitch Competition?

The Showcase online registration closes Monday October 16th at 11:59PM. The Social Enterprise Pitch Competition top 5 finalists will be notified Wednesday Oct 18th by 5pm. During the Showcase on Friday November the 3rd, the 5 finalists will make their 5-10min pitches on stage to a judging panel consisting of representatives from OCAD University, Ryerson University, University of Toronto, York University, the City of Toronto, and our Sponsor Universities Canada. The prize winner will be announced at the Showcase between 7-8pm.

Will refreshments be provided?

Yes, refreshments will be provided during the event. Lunch will be provided to all exhibitors during set-up at noon. We will ask successful applicants to indicate their dietary requirements.

What are the time commitments for the day of the Showcase ?

Load In & Set-Up: 7:00AM-1:00PM

Daytime Networking, Judging, and Final Pitches: 2:00PM-4:00PM

Evening Program on the Trade Floor Stage Including Keynote Speaker: 5:30PM to 7:30PM.

Panel Discussion on stage: 6:00PM-7:00PM

Closing Networking Reception: 7:30PM-8:30PM

Breakdown & Load Out: 8:30PM-11:00PM

Can I participate if I am not a university student or I don’t attend one of the four partner universities?

Yes. The #BigIdeasJAM is open to students of the four partner universities and youth between the ages of 18-34. You don’t need to be a post-secondary student to participate.

Will there be accommodations for differently-abled participants?

Yes. The venue is fully accessible.
